Our frequent Michigan snowfalls are making the birds visit our feeder constantly.  I notice they are also eating the berries on the landscaping bushes near my house too, I suppose the snow has most of their normal food supply buried.  I just happened to be in the van in my driveway, close enough to zoom this one in.

Snow Geese? I laughed as I saw these geese and called them snow geese. I didn't know ducks and geese liked snow. I saw two flocks of them today and both of them were in the snow. Now the flock I posted here may not have had a choice about being outside but the other flock I saw was sitting outside on the snow and ice like it was the most comfortable place in the world instead of inside their barn on the nice, warm, soft, straw.

Oh some days I just love the gps on my iphone.... like this day when it routed us off the main road onto a beautiful snowy road...... with no traffic!  Not only was it a beautiful scene to shoot, but we could stop without fear of traffic.  Now I would rather not have the signs in the picture but we were on the way to return the animals we used in our Christmas nativity and we were pulling a cattle trailer, so I couldn't be too picky about where DH could finally get the truck stopped :)  I did ask him to stop one more time and he did but we had a hard time getting the truck to move again afterward so I decided maybe stopping in the heavy snow with the trailer wasn't such a good idea :)

Frosties on the storm door!  Oh the beauty of these delicate, intricate little designs, little works of art just waiting for me to shoot them.

Our church did something different this year for a Christmas program.  We did a live, drive through, outdoor nativity.  We had 3 scenes; Herod and the wisemen, the shepherds and the angels, Mary & Joseph and baby Jesus.  As each car entered we gave them  a cd and as they viewed each scene, they heard the scripture relating to that part and the cd cued them when it was time to pull forward to the next scene.  It turned out great and we had a lot of good feedback on it!

Michigan Honey Crisp Apples

These are a favorite apple where I live in Michigan.  They are delicious, and very popular...  they seem priced twice the price of the other apples and they sell out.

I decided I would bundle up and go for a walk along Pine River and see if I could find anything to shoot.  Oh my it was so cold.  I didn't go very far at all until I decided it was much to cold to venture far from my car to shoot.  The Pine River is partially frozen over and I guess the wind was made colder by blowing across the ice.... anyway it was so cold it was painful to my face so I shot quick and headed back to the warmth of my car.  There are hundreds of Canadian geese on Pine River.... just sitting there on the ice.   You can see some of them in this picture. We have a few that stay here year around but not nearly this many.  I checked the temp and it was about 20 degrees.... you would think they would head south to warmer weather.

A seed pod I found growing on the riverbank.

This is a seed pod from my columbines.  I was trying to shoot it and didn't have enough light.... it has been so gray and dreary here... so I used my flash and it turned out like this.

I have no idea what these orange berries are.  They grow on a tree.

Every So Moist Chocolate Cake!

At the beginning of this year, I decided to try my hand at making sourdough bread.  I got a powdered starter, activated it, and got busy learning about sourdough bread.  It is a little more complicated than the yeast bread I normally make. I still feel like I am a sourdough beginner.  Usually I just make plain sourdough bread but this Cranberry/Walnut bread is delicious.  I love it toasted with homemade honey butter.
