I couldn't help but smile at these big baby birds sitting on this tiny little nest. I am not sure if there were more than two or not. I didn't want to get too close and disturb them so I just zoomed them in from about 4 feet away. My friend said they were baby robins.

Well I have been stalking the dragon flies again. Today I could only get rear or side views :) Every dragonfly I tried to shoot was landing on vegetation sticking up out of the water along the river bank about 3-4 feet from the bank. Not one of them would land facing forward or toward me.  I positioned myself everyway possible and even leaned over the edge but could not get in front of those pesky little bugs.  Oh well I guess it is best to document all views :)

I spent some time along the banks of the river, hoping to shoot some dragonflies but they were not out and about yet, so I shot a turtle instead :) He was a tiny little turtle, but posed for me for a few minutes.

I decided to take a little walk along the river and see if there were any dragonflies and I wasn't disappointed!

I was walking along the edge of the river looking for a good subject to shoot when I spotted this beautiful little wildflower, just waiting for me :)

#185 of 365 for July 5, 2013

I was outside and I kept hearing peck, peck, peck, peck. I thought my neighbors must be repairing something, yet it seemed so close. The light hammering sound continued for a while before I finally realized it was this tiny little bird in my front yard! He was pecking at a dead part of a tree and digging out some type of insect eggs. I was surprised he let me get rather close.

Well out of curiosity I looked this bird up.  The best I can tell it is a female downy woodpecker.  So it wasn't a he at all but a she :)   It was frail and scragly looking so I thought it might have been a juvenile but from what I read the juveniles and the males have red spots on their heads and I can see no red on this one.  Please post in the comment section if you know about this bird :)
